Some Resources for the Community

Housing Applications Manual

The Housing Applications Manual is a comprehensive guide designed to support our communities in navigating the accommodation market on the Gold Coast. This manual covers everything from applying for private leases using real estate platforms to finding a home, shared leases, required documents, bond loan assistance, removalist services, housing services, and social housing services.

This manual is essential for our multicultural communities as it provides clear and practical information to help individuals and families secure suitable housing. By offering step-by-step instructions and valuable resources, the manual aims to simplify the process of finding accommodation.

Generations Initiative

The Generations Group is an initiative launched by MCCGC to connect boys and men across ages and cultural backgrounds. It fosters cultural exchange, shared learning, and emotional wellbeing in a safe, inclusive space, and builds lasting relationships. In Australia, 3 in 10 men report feeling lonely, yet stigma often prevents open conversations and help-seeking. For CALD individuals, these barriers are often intensified by limited community connections and cultural expectations.

  • Participants: 16 men and boys aged 12–64
  • Languages spoken: Farsi, Arabic, Cantonese, Hokkien, Mandarin
  • Key themes: Fatherhood, financial literacy, mental health, English learning, personal growth, swimming
  • Group norms: Confidentiality, active listening, respectful interaction, openness, and fun, with food as a bonding element.
Why

This initiative was brought to life by the lived experience and professional passion of two settlement and mental health men, the group recognises that supporting men on an individual level is not enough; community and connection are essential for real change. This program offers a lifeline to those at risk of isolation, rebellion, or criminal pathways. By empowering participants to share their struggles, learn from elders, and build a sense of belonging, this initiative actively steers men and boys away from crime and towards a future of resilience, wellbeing, and hope.

Outcomes
  • Intergenerational connection and language diversity: Participants span five decades and speak five languages, fostering broad perspectives and enriching dialogue.
  • Safe and trust space: Confidentiality and respectful interaction are core norms, ensuring participants feel secure to share and connect.
  • Emotional openness: Participants discussed topics rarely addressed in their cultures and communities
  • Cultural interchange: Sharing ignites curiosity and pride, helping participants embrace their heritage while promoting mutual understanding.
  • Personal growth and wellbeing: The program empowers participants to reflect on their own journeys and embrace positive change.
  • Hands-on, skill-based activities: Learning new skills together, participants build teamwork, bridge generations, and gain practical knowledge for everyday life.
  • Sustainable community-driven engagement: By valuing diverse voices and promoting collaboration, the community builds lasting connections and resilience, creating a foundation for long-term wellbeing and support.
  • Prevention: We are doing this in an organic and culturally appropriate way. By working closely with participants and drawing on their lived experiences, the program evolves naturally to fit the unique needs of each community.
