Promoting Cultural Humility in Health: Guest Lecture at Griffith University

Our lovely Accredited Practising Dietitian at Cura Aged Care, Dr Fatemeh Haidari, and Senior Manager, Health, Laura Bernal, had the opportunity to deliver a guest lecture to Master of Public Health students at Griffith University.

The session, Community Engagement and Cultural Humility in Health Promotion, focused on real experiences working with multicultural communities. We talked about why cultural humility is important in health promotion, listening to people, respecting their lived experiences, and understanding that culture shapes how people access and experience healthcare. When health professionals work this way, services are more inclusive, trust is stronger, and health outcomes are better.

The session encouraged open discussion, reflection and thoughtful questions from students. It was a valuable opportunity to connect community practice with academic learning and to support future health professionals to work more effectively with multicultural communities.

Thank you to the Griffith University team, and especially Dr Mujibul Anam, for the invitation and warm welcome.
