Multicultural Peer Support Worker (MPSW) Training Session
Our Culture in Mind team, in partnership with the World Wellness Group, successfully organised an enriching Multicultural Peer Support Worker (MPSW) training session to prepare participants for their roles within our program. MPSWs will support our clients seeking help managing severe and complex mental health challenges through peer-led, culturally safe tasks that promote recovery, community connection, and empowerment.
They won’t be interpreters; they will translate meaning, not just words, with empathy and cultural awareness. They will help ensure services are culture-based and align with the cultural beliefs and perspectives of culturally diverse communities.
How do MPSWs support clients?
- Provide language support
- Listen and give emotional support when clients are feeling stressed or upset
- Help clients understand and use services, like health care, housing, or social support
- Explain things in a way that makes sense culturally
- Help the Recovery Worker understand the client’s culture and mental health
