Leaders of Positive Change Luncheon

Our MCCGC team had a fantastic afternoon at the Leaders of Positive Change Luncheon organised by Multicultural Families Organisation Inc.. The event featured very important discussions on men's mental health and the need to bring this conversation to multicultural communities. Cultural barriers often prevent these crucial discussions, especially among men.

Speakers highlighted that in many cultures, the term "mental health" doesn't even exist in the language, making it even more challenging to address. They emphasised the crucial role of organisations in supporting the community.

Our Language Support Worker and leader of the Eritrean community, Kibrom, was part of a panel discussion where he shared powerful messages on how service providers can better support communities and openly shared his struggles.

Talking about mental health is crucial for men, as they are often less likely to look for help when facing mental health issues due to social and cultural expectations. This can lead to untreated mental health conditions, which can have difficult consequences for them and those around them.

Thanks to MFO for the invitation and for facilitating the space to discuss such a crucial topic.
