What our volunteers say...

Lia is originally from Indonesia and arrived in Australia a couple of years ago to support her husband who is doing his Phd here. Moving to another country, leaving her government job and being a home-stay wife for someone so social and active wasn't easy!

We met Lia at Walk Together last year when she began volunteering for the first time with us. We then invited her to come along to Talking Circles where she made new connections and improved her English. There she also met a few of the students from the Train2care program (training for the Certificate III in Aged Care) and thought about a career change. The next month she was in!

In the meantime, Lia kept volunteering at Multicultural Communities Council Gold Coast and helps with administrative tasks and activities coordination. She is also involved with other organisations such as Women's Space at Labrador and Benevolent Society Gold Coast.

"I had no idea how enriching this whole experience would be both personally and professionally" - Jazney Moss (USA)

"I am glad that i got to experience working in a nonprofit and in an environment that values diverse cultures. This position strengthened my interest for working in a global and multicultural setting after graduation" - Laura Bastings (USA)
